Over the last 3 years, I have been continuously working on one of the most comprehensive systems of my career: E1 Decorate On Demand (e1od.com). It is currently in production and handles end-to-end automation for corporate swag and branded merchandise.
What is E1 Decorate On Demand?
E1 is a leading provider of Decorate-on-Demand software. Historically, the branded merchandise industry has been plagued by manual order entry, dedicated buyers, complex project management, and massive customer service overhead due to out-of-stock items or incorrect data.
The E1 Platform is the ultimate Distributor-to-Decorator platform, enabling businesses to sell customized merchandise without inventory, contracts, or order fulfillment hassles.
The core philosophy of E1 is that "Sales & Efficiency Solve Everything." By completely eliminating manual touchpoints—from art mockups to stock checking—E1 transforms how distributors and decorators operate.
How It Works
E1 automates the complex supply chain of promotional products through several key features:
- Automated Ordering: Eliminates dedicated buyers. E1 automatically orders exactly what is needed, precisely when it's needed.
- Project Management on Autopilot: E1 handles production routing and order execution directly with decorators, offering real-time status updates without human intervention.
- Live Inventory Integration: Eliminates out-of-stock nightmares. Real-time integration with major distributors like SanMar, S&S Activewear, and Alpha Broder ensures absolute stock accuracy.
- Automated Art Department: E1 generates image mock-ups and sends art files (including DST embroidery files) directly to decorators automatically.
- Instant Pop-Up Stores: Customers can launch 24/7 web stores in minutes. When a store closes, E1 aggregates orders, purchases the blanks, and dispatches the POs and art files instantly.
My Role: Architecting & Continuous Engineering
I have been a core software engineer on this project for the past three years. This isn't just a project I helped launch—it is a living, breathing SaaS platform that we are updating continuously to handle growing scale and new distributor APIs.
My key responsibilities include:
- Backend Architecture: Designing robust server-side architecture to handle thousands of concurrent transactions, ensuring the system remains highly available and resilient.
- Third-Party Integrations: Building and maintaining real-time integrations with massive supplier networks (SanMar, S&S) to fetch live inventory and automatically dispatch purchase orders.
- Data Synchronization & CRM/ERP: Developing pipelines that pass thousands of hours worth of accounting data—sales tax, commissions, credit card processing—directly into our clients' CRM and ERP systems.
- Continuous Delivery: Managing the deployment pipeline for a production application that evolves daily, resolving technical debt while introducing powerful new features for our distributors.
Final Thoughts
Working on E1 Decorate On Demand for three years has been a masterclass in building for the long term. A system this deeply integrated into a business's operations cannot afford downtime or stock miscalculations. Through rigorous engineering, automated testing, and scalable architecture, we have successfully built an engine that runs businesses entirely on autopilot. It’s an ongoing journey, and I’m incredibly proud of the robust platform we’ve built.
